On September 2nd 2013, our winery Toro Albala is very glad to announce the reviews that our wines received in August 2013 from Robert Parker. Our exclusive PX 1946 vintage has received the highest score, 100 points. Luis Gutierrez, responsible for The Wine Advocate for Spain, Chile and Argentina has scored our wines. In his review, he highlights the complexity and richness in palate and aroma of the 1946 vintage. Luis Gutierrez 'The 1946 Don PX Convento Seleccion produced with Pedro Ximenez grapes dehydrated under the sun at the time of the end of the second world war, was only bottled in September 2011. This is an extreme wine, my first descriptor was ultra-mega super concentrated. It is unbelievably powerful both in the nose and the palate, full of umami, with sweet cinnamon, Christmas cake, camphor, petrol lemongrass Belgian chocolate and butter. Incredibly complex and rich, sweet, balanced and smooth in the palate, it is both very sweet and somehow salty, and with time it develops a black olive note. It combines the texture of the 1962 and elegance of the 1949. It is as decadent as it gets. 825 bottles were produced. This wines will survive all of us. These wines are kept for generations and offered in very small quantities, but its amazing that you can still buy them...'
  • Colour dark chestnut with iodine edge, medium tear. Bouquet: A marked character to orangette in nose that stands above anything else. As this aroma dissipates, scents of high roast coffee and liquorice root appear with a finish of caramel. Very balanced. Palate: Let the wine roll in mouth and it will gradually uncover to your taste buds. Balsamic, concentrated in liquorice. Perfect harmony of mint and camphor, as dense as honey and raisins. A proud representative of complexity. The basis of our Don PX Convento is Don PX young wine. Harvested and selected grapes are spread in mats and follow sun-drying process to become raisins. After pressing the juice we will obtain a partially-fermented grape must. PX wine alcohol will be added and the wine will follow oxidative ageing in American oak casks for at least 25 years before being bottled. Given its high density, this is a non-filtered wine. Single vintage and limited production. Bottled in 2014 - Aged for 59 years.

"The 1962 Don PX Reserva Especial is pitch black, dense, medicinal and balsamic, with a grassy nose of liquorice, black olives, roasted coffee, smoke and ash, very intense and expressive in the palate, spicy (nutmeg) with incredible length... These wines have to be tasted to be believed. It was bottled after 49 years ageing in bota. Drink 2013-2040". Luis Gutierrez, The Wine Advocate August 2013.

Alta Plata Rueda Verdejo is indeed the star wine of Bodegas Mocen. It is made from the native grape variety Verdejo that provides the wine with an excellent blend of floral aromas giving it great backbone. This wine is dry and creamy with a fruity texture that lingers on the palate. It is especially recommended for seafood. A unique grape, that provides the wine with a peachy flavour and a creamy texture. A must with any fresh fish or light salads and a strong mature cheese!
